SPIC 2021

Seoul Peace Initiative Conference 2021

Seoul proposes the “Seoul Peace Initiative” to build peace in citizens’ daily lives and contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula and in the world. The idea of the Seoul Peace Initiative enhances the position of the Seoul Metropolitan Government that establishes peace; at the same time, it becomes a global hub for active discussion on peace. UNDP emphasized local governance of building peace. Seoul seeks to improve peacebuilding policy led by the nation and to examine policy and institutions for a safe and peaceful life.

To settle and expand the peace initiative by Seoul, the Seoul Institute established the “Seoul Peace Initiative Consortium (SPIC)” with international research institutes that study peace and security. SPIC is the first multilateral peace research panel at home and abroad; it seeks to fortify Seoul’s research capacity and become a powerful platform for local governance for peace. To this end, SPIC regularly holds an international conference that serves as a venue for discussion about the world’s city, peace, and security. This year, we have Seoul Peace Initiative Conference 2021.

Seoul Peace Initiative Conference 2021 will be a venue for coexistence and peace, and we will discuss issues of conflicts and discrimination in many places, including Seoul. In the sessions, we will discuss peace and security issues that we are facing and domestic and international perspectives about the Seoul-led peace initiative. In addition, at this conference, peace/security research institutes from SPIC will discuss peace and daily life on the Korean Peninsula and beyond.
